Chaos: The Battle of Wizards (ZX Spectrum, 1985) Original game and graphics: Julian Gollop / Games Workshop. Sprite bytes decoded from the Chaos memory snapshot distributed with: https://github.com/lewster32/chaos-disassembly Pinned revision: f6ee853fa7fd63d41516075ad789c0410f791765 Disassembly annotations: Lewis Lane (2026), MIT licence in SOURCE-LICENSE.txt. This annotation licence is not a claim of authorship of the original 1985 game assets. Cross-reference: https://zxnet.co.uk/spectrum/chaos/ Guesser and szeliga disassembly (2022). Instructions: https://worldofspectrum.net/pub/sinclair/games-info/c/Chaos.pdf Extraction: decode the Z80 snapshot's 48K memory pages, read original 32-byte sprites as four 8x8 UDGs, and read four frame pointers, colour attributes and 50Hz animation delays directly from each creature's object record. 5301 sprite bytes were also checked against the disassembly's DEFB data. Creature timing uses the game data rather than the GIF preview timings in annotations. Effects use original bitmap frames with browser-adapted timing for readability. The ordinary wizard designs are static in the original game. Wizard Arena's modern artwork is original generated artwork. Its simplified combat/spell rules do not claim to reproduce the full original Chaos engine.
